About this Event
Inspired by their new film Voice of Freedom, American Experience presents a virtual discussion around the excellence and power of Black women as they navigate and conquer traditionally white spaces and industries. The conversation will examine the life and accomplishments of acclaimed singer Marian Anderson, who would rise above the racism she experienced at every stage of her career to be known as ‘the voice of a century,’ and extend to the challenges still facing female Black artists and performers today.

The discussion will be moderated by Jessica Marie Johnson, assistant professor of history at Johns Hopkins University.
