NHPBS Online Holiday Auction Offers Unique Gifts for Everyone on Your List

(DURHAM, November 9, 2017) With the holiday season right around the corner, the New Hampshire PBS Online Holiday Auction is a fun, hassle-free way to do your holiday shopping while supporting NHPBS. Bidding starts on November 15th and runs through December 7th, featuring hundreds of donated items from local businesses and NHPBS supporters.

“The NHPBS Online Holiday Auction has something for everyone thanks to the generosity of our donors,” said Judy Pinkham, Director of Fundraising Events at NHPBS, on the variety in this year’s  Holiday Auction items.  “There are hand knit baby sweaters, books, jewelry, ski tickets, overnight stays throughout the State, Museum passes, restaurant certificates and so much more.”

The diversity of items in this year's auction means that there's something for everyone on your list- including yourself. From practical items - a certificate for a car wash is always useful during the winter months to gift cards from popular restaurants and stores, as well as one-of-a-kind experience and locally made goods.

One of the more unique items in this year's eclectic mix is a hand-cut, wooden jigsaw puzzle donated by Stave Puzzles in Wilder, VT. Composed of 75 individual pieces, this 7'' by 10'' puzzle was designed by artist Susan Greenleaf and was regarded as being the "Rolls-Royce of jigsaw puzzles" by Smithsonian Magazine.

The auction offers a variety of certificates from hotel stays and spa treatments to ski passes, community college classes and much more. If you'd really like to offer your employees a fun experience outside the office, check out a certificate donated by Portsmouth Team Building for a event up to 75 people. For a full list of items visit www.nhpbs.org/auction.

The end dates for bidding are staggered over the course of six days: 11/26, 11/28, 11/30, 12/3, 12/5, and 12/7 with items selling starting at 6pm each of those nights.

NHPBS staff members have been working since September to prepare for the Online Auction, and helping them in different capacities are over 20  volunteers, some of whom have been assisting the station to carry out auctions for over 30 years.

“With a very small Auction staff, we rely on our hardworking team of Auction volunteers to help with every aspect of the Auction,” said Judy Pinkham. “We have volunteers who crisscross the state to pick up donations, they write copy for each item and even photograph the items to be displayed on the website.  We are so grateful for each of our dedicated volunteers.”

While NHPBS Auction Representative Barbara Mariacher has been helping the station on matters concerning auctions for over 30 years, her mother, Marian Kelsey, commonly referred to as “Ma” by  auction staff and volunteers, has her beat by almost 10 years.

“It’s a community thing,” Barbara Mariacher said on why she’s involved with the auction. “There are so many people who come in and volunteer, and it’s a great environment—but it’s also helping to maintain the station and its programs.”

Donations for the auctions are being accepted through Friday, November 17. Please call 603-868-4432 or e-mail auction@nhpbs.org for more information on how to donate.
