"Partnership for a Safe New Hampshire" Invites Citizens to Local Emergency Preparedness Meetings

(Durham, September 30, 2003) – The Partnership for a Safe New Hampshire, a new effort to raise awareness of emergency preparedness at the local level, will present eight community meetings across the Granite State this fall. The first meeting will take place at the Whipple Free Library in New Boston on Tuesday, October 7 at 7 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.Created to encourage public discussion of emergency preparedness and related issues, such as terrorism, homeland security and public safety, with a special emphasis on local needs, the Partnership for a Safe New Hampshire is a collaborative effort of New Hampshire Public Television, the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, New Hampshire Library Association, and Volunteer NH!. The partner organizations have worked with personnel from the NH Department of Safety, Bureau of Emergency Management to develop content for the Partnership for a Safe New Hampshire meetings.“Each of the partners in this project is involved in addressing New Hampshire’s critical needs at the local level,” said Peter Frid, NHPTV’s CEO and general manager. “We realized emergency preparedness is a timely and pressing issue. These forums respond to the needs of citizens and communities to learn about the best procedures to prepare for emergencies.”The meetings will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the following locations:Oct. 7: Whipple Free Library, New Boston Oct. 8: Town & Country Motor Inn, Gorham Oct. 14: Portsmouth City Hall Oct. 22: Kennett High School, Conway Oct. 23: Manchester City Library Oct. 28: Littleton Community CenterNov. 5: Keene Public Library Nov.17: Elliott Alumni Center, DurhamSpeakers for these sessions include representatives of the Bureau of Emergency Management, UNH Cooperative Extension and/or Volunteer NH!’s Citizen Corp.
