NHPTV WINS THREE NH ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS GRANITE MIKES AWARDS

(DURHAM, October 28, 2016) — New Hampshire Public Television President and CEO Peter Frid received the NHAB’s prestigious Broadcaster of the Year award at the annual Granite Mikes awards event in Concord yesterday. This was one of three awards bestowed on New Hampshire’s PBS station.

The documentary Plight of the Grassland Birds and an episode of its local series Windows to the Wild received first-place awards. Peter Frid: Broadcaster of the Year Given to an individual in recognition of: outstanding commitment to his job, unwavering dedication to the evolution of broadcasting, being creative and enthusiastic, and a commitment to the community. Frid was singled out for his leadership skills during an especially difficult financial time.

He presided over a multi-million dollar conversion from analog to digital broadcasting. In 2011 he was at the helm when the State of New Hampshire withdrew all of its funding, reducing the station’s budget by nearly one-third. Frid oversaw an effort to relicense the station as a non-profit corporation and has crafted a successful collaboration with other public broadcasting stations.

Plight of the Grassland Birds: First Place: Documentary News From the vast plains of Montana, the deserts of Mexico, and the meadows of New England, grassland birds are losing their habitats at an alarming rate. In the one-hour documentary, host Will Lange explores efforts to protect the birds and their habitats. [Producer Phil Vaughn; videographer Steve Giordani]

Windows to the Wild - Mindful Adventure: First Place: Feature Story Cape Cod author Greg O'Brien is on a journey with Alzheimer's disease. He and host Will Lange hike and paddle on the Cape, and talk about how Greg's love of the outdoors is helping him cope. [Producer Phil Vaughn; videographer Steve Giordani]
