NHPTV RECEIVES $5,000 GRANT FOR EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES

Lincoln Financial Foundation Long-Time Supporter of Educational Services

(DURHAM, July 6, 2015) – New Hampshire Public Television recently received a $5,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation to foster early literacy development. The grant will support NHPTV’s Ready To Learn program, which helps build a solid foundation for academic success for children of all income and literacy levels. RTL takes a multi-platform approach to literacy development and promotes the use of PBS children’s programming as a springboard to other educational activities. The grant will also support NHPTV’s participation in the annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest. Lincoln Financial Foundation has supported NHPTV’s educational outreach services for more than a decade. The Ready To Learn program brings educational services, resources, and free books to families, early education professionals, local libraries, and other community organizations around the Granite State. The program adheres to state education curriculum standards and is offered to parents and educators for free. Ready To Learn encourages parents to read aloud to their children, organizes parenting and literacy workshops and helps families use television more critically and wisely. nhptv.org/knThe NHPTV- PBS KIDS Writers Contest encourages children in grades K-3 to explore the power of creativity by writing and illustrating their own stories, and promotes reading skills through hands-on, active learning. In NHPTV’s 21 years of hosting the contest, more than 10,000 children have participated, and a number of them have become national contest winners. nhptv.org/kidswrite “We’re thankful to the Lincoln Financial Foundation for its continuing support of the Ready To Learn and the NHPTV-PBS KIDS Writers Contest,” remarked Peter A.
