NHPTV RECEIVES TWO BOSTON/NEW ENGLAND EMMY® AWARDS FOR WINDOWS TO THE WILD

CELEBRATES 10th SEASON OF SERIES

(DURHAM, June 3, 2015) — To cap the celebration of the 10th season of its WINDOWS TO THE WILD outdoor adventure series, New Hampshire Public Television recently won two Boston/New England Emmy® Awards for the program. It also received four other nominations for the 38th Boston/New England Emmy® Awards. WINDOWS TO THE WILD received the Outstanding Magazine Program / Special for the “Hiking in the Dark” episode with Randy Pierce of 2020VisionQuest. Pierce lost his sight in 2000, but not his determination to keep hiking. He and his dog the Mighty Quinn demonstrated their partnership to host Will Lange, as all three hiked Mt. Willard's rocky trails and slippery stream crossings. In 2012, Randy and the Mighty Quinn finished climbing all of New Hampshire's 48 four-thousand footers (Steve Giordani, producer/videographer; Willem Lange, host). WILLEM LANGE, the 80-year-old host of WINDOWS TO THE WILD, received an Emmy for Outstanding Program Host. Lange has been the host of the program for its 10 seasons, and hosted NHPTV’s Wildlife Journal program prior to that. He’s a well-known outdoor enthusiast, author, and speaker who lives in Vermont. His new book, Words from the Wild (Bauhan Publishing, Peterborough, NH), is a collection of essays about his experiences on the show.Additionally, NHPTV received nominations for:- WINDOWS TO THE WILD episodes “On Belay Kids Hike,” (Phil Vaughn, producer; Steve Giordani, videographer; Willem Lange, host) and “Exploring Wild Iceland” (Steve Giordani, videographer; Willem Lange, host); - Best videographer (Steve Giordani); and- Community/Public Service Spot “Katie’s Birthday” (Carla Russell, producer).
