10 WILD YEARS! NHPTV’S "WINDOWS TO THE WILD" BEGINS 10th SEASON

Award-Winning Series Hosted By Outdoor Adventurer Lange Explores New England's Trails, Peaks, Water

(DURHAM, September 29, 2014) - Explore New England's wild places with outdoor adventurer Will Lange when the 10th season of New Hampshire Public Television's award-winning WINDOWS TO THE WILD series gets underway. The adventures are far-flung this season, as Will joins Colby-Sawyer College students on their annual hike; gets upstaged by an unusual hiking duo; climbs Mt. Monadnock with a man who's been on its trails more than 6,000 times; paddles with the Kayaking Grandma; goes to Coos County to see its ATV trails; and even visits Iceland, the land of volcanoes, Vikings, geysers and stunning geology. Oh, and when Will turns 80 in the spring, there'll be a celebration!COMING UP: ON BELAY KIDS HIKE (10/1/14 at 7:30 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME & additional airings) - To mountain climbers, "belay" means to secure someone from falling. On Belay is a NH-based nonprofit that offers adventure programs for youths who have a family member with cancer. Will hikes Mt. Willard in NH's White Mountains with an On Belay group that's discovering community and resilience.AN UNUSUAL HIKING DUO - BUFFALO & TOUGH COOKIE (10/8/14 at 7:30 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME & additional airings) - An avid hiker, Dan Szczesny and his wife "adopted" the two kids who lived next door to them. Dan and now-teenaged Janelle have been hiking NH peaks ever since, and Dan wrote a book about their experiences. Will hikes Mt. Magalloway with Buffalo and Tough Cookie, as they're known on the trail.DISCOVER THE EMERALD NECKLACE (10/29/14 at 7:30 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME & additional airings) - Boston's Emerald Necklace offers nature's glory in an urban setting. It's a "self-preserving instinct of civilization," in the words of Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed it and Central Park. Hike the Emerald Necklace Will and see who he meets along the way.THE ALLAGASH & THE MASTER GUIDE (11/5/14 at 7:30 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME & additional airings) - Experience the mighty Allagash River with 80-year-old master guide Gil Gilpatrick. He takes guest host Scott Ellis and a group on a week-long canoe trip on the remote Maine river. Gil shares its history and explains why he comes back to the Allagash year after year.EXPLORING WILD ICELAND (11/19/14 at 7:30 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME & additional airings) - Will Lange travels to the land of volcanoes, Vikings, waterfalls and hot water geysers. Along with local guides, he explores Iceland's stunning geology and culture."The greatest pleasure for me in doing this show is the people I meet.
