DURHAM, April 5, 2014) - The quarter-finals of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE kicked off Saturday with a match between Portsmouth Christian Academy of Dover and the Academy for Science and Design of Nashua. Portsmouth Christian Academy took the lead early and went on to win the game with a score of 305-150. Last year PCA competed in the quarter-finals, and in 2011 they made it to the semi-finals.Portsmouth Christian Academy was represented by captain John Sipp, Jonah Abraham, Connor Foley and Nate Foster, and led by coaches Donna Capern and Dr. Raymond Gamble. “We were very impressed with the Academy’s team and found them to be worthy opponents!" noted Portsmouth Christian Academy coach Donna Capern.The Academy of Science and Design was represented by captain Dom Dabekian, Jess Hayes, Alexander Jaferey and Caleb Darling, and led by coach Andrew Myers.Watch this and all the matches online >>Portsmouth Christian Academy now advances to the semi-finals of Granite State Challenge. The popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling for the coveted SuperChallenge title and brainy bragging rights.It takes a winning combination of knowledge, teamwork, grace under pressure, and a quick buzzer reflex to play Granite State Challenge. The show brings New Hampshire's top high school academic teams head-to-head in lively competition. The game emphasizes quick recall of material in all major disciplines - math, science, social studies, language and fine arts - along with a mix of questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and regional topics. Host Jim Jeannotte poses the Challenge questions to the teams; Lori Warriner interviews team members. The winner of the Granite State SuperChallenge receives $1,000, a trophy and a champion banner for their school; the runner-up school receives $500 and a trophy.
