DOVER HIGH SCHOOL TOPS SALEM IN GSC

(DURHAM, March 15, 2014) - Dover High School secured a first-round win over Salem High School in this week's GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE match. The lead bounced back and forth between the Dover Green Wave and the Salem Blue Devils early in the game. Ultimately, Dover pulled ahead in the bonus round and held on to the lead, winning with a score of 240-195."We [the coaches] are very proud of how well our students demonstrated their well-rounded knowledge base, and rose to meet the Granite State Challenge. It was exciting to see the Dover Green Wave roll into the NHPTV studios and make a big splash," declared Dover High School coach Eric Salmonsen.Dover High School was represented by Captain Erin Bourque, Charlie Ly, Quinlin Payne, and Tim Mainella, and coached by Eric Salmonsen and Andrew Chase. The popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling for the coveted SuperChallenge title and brainy bragging rights.It takes a winning combination of knowledge, teamwork, grace under pressure, and a quick buzzer reflex to play Granite State Challenge. The show brings New Hampshire's top high school academic teams head-to-head in lively competition. The game emphasizes quick recall of material in all major disciplines - math, science, social studies, language and fine arts - along with a mix of questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and regional topics. Host Jim Jeannotte poses the Challenge questions to the teams; Lori Warriner interviews team members.The winner of the Granite State SuperChallenge receives $1,000, a trophy and a champion banner for their school; the runner-up school receives $500 and a trophy.
