ON YOUR MARKERS, YOUNG WRITERS !

— ENTER YOUR ILLUSTRATED STORIES IN NHPTV-PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST—

(DURHAM, January 30, 2014) – Tall tales, animal tales, short tales, family tales, funny tales, magic tales, nature tales – any kind of illustrated tale can be entered in the NHPTV-PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST sponsored by New Hampshire Public Television! This is the 20th year NHPTV has hosted a writing and illustrating contest for children. This year’s challenge to Granite State kids and schools: 1,000 submissions! Children in grades K – 3 are invited to submit their original illustrated stories to the NHPTV-PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST. The contest encourages children to explore the power of creativity by writing and illustrating their own stories, and it promotes reading skills through hands-on, active learning. The deadline to submit stories is March 25th. Contest guidelines and writing resources are available at nhptv.org/kidswrite.NHPTV partners with schools, public libraries and other literacy organizations to implement the contest. A panel of local judges will select first, second and third place winners in April; all the winning stories will be posted on NHPTV’s website and will be recognized at an awards ceremony in the spring. The first-place winners are entered into the national PBS contest. The NHPTV PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST is part of NHPTV's commitment to promoting literacy and a love of reading, writing, and creative expression in children. The contest aligns with New Hampshire writing and reading standard, and is made possible with support from Heinemann. The contest started as the READING RAINBOW YOUNG WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS CONTEST in 1994 and became the NHPTV-PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST in 2010. More than 11,000 students have participated in the contest since 1994, and seven local children have been recognized for their work with national awards.
