(DURHAM, April 1, 2013) - The final round one match was a nail-biter as Bedford High School squeaked out a victory over Nashua North High School by a score of 200 - 180 last night on GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE.Displaying both brains and brawn, the teams included a state geography champion, a top debater and reporter, as well as a junior Olympian and a state swimming champion. With the lead see-sawing between teams, students answered tough questions about art, geography, Stephen King and literature. They were tied until Bedford won out with its answer on the spiracles of insects.The Bedford Bulldogs were represented by captain Cooper Lecza, Hannah Dukershein, Gautham Upadrasta, and Elliot Chun, and led by coaches Jon Cannon, Robert Zeller, and Peter Gagnon. The Nashua North Titans were represented by captain Priyanka Satpute, Madeline Doctor, Erica Vendituoli, Kara Upton, and were coached by Timothy Bosch and Todd Campion. Look for exciting new angles to the games this season, including a Granite State vs. Bay State Governors' Cup grand finale match in May.It takes a winning combination of knowledge, teamwork, grace under pressure, and a quick buzzer reflex to play Granite State Challenge. The show brings New Hampshire's top high school academic teams head-to-head in lively competition. The game emphasizes quick recall of factual material in all major disciplines - math, science, social studies, language and fine arts - along with a mix of questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and regional topics. Host Jim Jeannotte poses the Challenge questions to the teams; Lori Warriner interviews team members.Each of the four team members and the alternates of the winning Granite State SuperChallenge team will receive a $1,000 award from the NHHEAF Network/ I Am College Bound.org program.
