3 MILE ISLAND FIRST STOP ON NEW WINDOWS TO THE WILD SEASON

(DURHAM, January 7, 2013) — Travel back to Lake Winnipesaukee’s early days with Willem Lange, as he paddles over to a simpler life at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Three Mile Island Camp, on the season premiere of WINDOWS TO THE WILD, airing Thursday, January 10th at 8:30 p.m. on New Hampshire Public Television’s NHPTV PRIME channel. Where 43 acres of rocky woodlands and marshes have gone virtually untouched on NH’s largest lake, campers go to bed in rustic cabins by the light of kerosene lamps, and a bugle sounds to announce dinner. The AMC camp at Three Mile Island provides a quiet summer escape for multiple generations amid Lake Winnipesaukee’s buzz of vacationers and activity. On “Camping on Three Mile Island,” Willem relaxes with folks from all over the country who come to enjoy a simple life of swimming, canoeing, sailing, and the natural beauty of the island. He gets the history of the 100+ year-old camp, and participates in camp traditions—like a round of the Virginia reel after dinner! Coming up on season 8 of WINDOWS TO THE WILD: hike into the White Mountains as Willem visits the newly renovated AMC Madison Spring Hut; chase down black bears with Willem and videographer Alfred Balch; follow a potential “Paddlers Trail” on the Connecticut River; hike with Atticus the dog; soar over Franconia, and much more! NHPTV’s popular, award-winning WINDOWS TO THE WILD outdoor series, hosted by Willem Lange, airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. on NHPTV EXPLORE. As he hikes, floats, flies and fishes around New England, Willem offers insight into the history, ecology and special character of these wild places. nhptv.org/windows Other airdates on NHPTV PRIME and NHPTV EXPLORE: www.nhptv.org/schedule Watch online anytime: http://video.nhptv.org/program/windows-wild
