BIRD TALES SPECIAL PREMIERES 10/4

(DURHAM, October 1, 2012) – Why are people so passionate about birds? On BIRD TALES, a new WINDOWS TO THE WILD special, host Willem Lange finds out what draws American and Nicaraguan schoolchildren, a birdsong expert, an artist, a bird sanctuary guide and a prison inmate to the migratory birds in their region. BIRD TALES premieres on New Hampshire Public Television October 4th at 8 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME.Follow outdoor adventurer Willem Lange as he travels north and south to meet migratory bird enthusiasts who share fascinating BIRD TALES. Meet Sarah Zuccarelli, who lives in a bird sanctuary in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire; Don Kroodsma, a world-famous birdsong expert from Massachusetts who’s been studying their songs for over 40 years; Abraham Hunter, a 16-year-old in Illinois who shares his birding experience through art; an inmate in a New Jersey prison who shares his passion for birds with other inmates and correctional officers; and schoolchildren in Nicaragua and Washington, DC, who are part of Bridging the Americas, a migratory bird education and conservation program. BIRD TALES is the story of people who, in their unique ways, share a love for birds. BIRD TALES is the third in a series of award-winning specials (JOURNEY OF THE BROAD-WINGED HAWK, SAVING SONGBIRDS) produced by NHPTV that explore and celebrate New England’s migratory birds. The documentary is funded by a grant from the Butler Foundation, which also funded two other NHPTV WINDOWS TO THE WILD migratory bird specials. Those documentaries received Boston/New England Emmy awards for environmental programming, and have been distributed to PBS stations across the country.Watch online and find resources at nhtpv.org/birdtales
