NHPTV-PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST UNDERWAY

CALLING ALL STORYTELLERS IN GRADES K – 3! ENTER THE NHPTV-PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST(DURHAM, February 8, 2012) – Tall tales, short tales, funny tales, animal tales, family tales, space age tales, nature tales – all kinds of illustrated tales can be entered in the NHPTV-PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest sponsored by New Hampshire Public Television!Children in grades K – 3 are invited to submit their original illustrated stories to this year’s NHPTV-PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST. The deadline to submit stories is March 30th. Contest guidelines and writing resources are available at nhptv.org/kidswrite. The contest encourages children to explore the power of creativity by writing and illustrating their own stories, and it promotes reading skills through hands-on, active learning.NHPTV partners with schools, public libraries and other literacy organizations to implement the contest. A panel of local judges will select first, second and third place winners in April; the first place winners’ stories will be posted on NHPTV’s website, and entered into the national PBS contest. This is the 17th year that NHPTV has hosted a writing and illustrating contest for children, and more than 10,000 children have participated in them over the years. This year the first, second and third place winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony at StoryLand in Glen, NH. Award-winning children’s book author Kathy Brodsky, whose books include A Horse Named Special, Stover, The Inside Story, and The Winner Is…, will speak at the ceremony. The NHPTV PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST is part of NHPTV's commitment to promoting literacy and a love of reading, writing, and creative expression in children. The contest aligns with New Hampshire writing and reading standards, and is made possible with support from NEA-NH. The contest started as the READING RAINBOW YOUNG WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS CONTEST in 1994 and became the NHPTV-PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST in 2010. Six local children have been recognized for their work with national awards. They promote excellence in teaching and learning for educators, childcare providers, parents, students, and learners of all ages.
