Winners of NHPTV-PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest Announced

Students In K - Fifth Grade Submitted Stories

(Durham, NH, May 23, 2011) - The secret life of a dog home alone, a light bulb that tries to get people to save electricity, and a battle between factions of movie popcorn were among the subjects of winning stories in this year's New Hampshire Public Television–PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest. NHPTV received 431 entries for this year's contest! The first-, second-, and third place winners in the six grade categories will be recognized at the NHPTV–PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest awards ceremony June 11th at the NHPTV Broadcast Center in Durham. NH children’s book illustrator Teri Weidner of Portsmouth will speak at the ceremony and offer the young writers and illustrators encouragement. Weidner is the illustrator of Say Daddy! by Mike Shoulders and Look Both Ways: A Cautionary Tale by Diane Z. Writers Contest, which promotes the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning and celebrates the power of creating original illustrated stories. This year's NHPTV winners were chosen from among 431 entrants by a panel of judges including local educators, librarians and NEA- NH president Rhonda Wesolowski.
