Family: Spouse: Stephanie and three children, Caleb, Louisa , and Thea . His father was John Chafee, the 66th Governor of Rhode Island (1963-1969), the United State Secretary of the Navy (1969-1972), and U.S. Senator (1976–1999).

After graduating from Brown, Chafee attended Montana State University’s Horseshoeing School and for the next seven years he worked as a blacksmith at harness racetracks throughout the United States and Canada.
