BROADCAST TRANSMISSION ENGINEER

Position Summary:

New Hampshire Public Broadcasting (NHPBS) is seeking a collaborative, dedicated and detail-oriented Broadcast Transmission Engineer.  The Broadcast Transmission Engineer oversees the proper functioning and maintenance of all broadcast/communication equipment at all tower/transmission locations throughout the State of New Hampshire and in Massachusetts.  This position has addition duties that include the operation and component level maintenance of assigned digital/UVH/VHF transmitters housed at station sites.   This position will report directly to the Director of Studio Technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment at all NHPBS transmission and tower facilities
  • Knowledge of repair and preventative maintenance of digital transmitters systems with FCC and NHPTV guidelines
  • Perform or coordinate general maintenance and repair at sites, including buildings, road maintenance and basic landscape care (mowing/weed whacking) of all areas at tower and transmitter sites
  • Communicate with manager or supervisor any concerns, issues, problems with existing equipment and sites
  • Maintain logs and records of all activities at each site as required
  • Coordinate with tenants (new/existing) all installation or updates of equipment at each site
  • Responsible for all reports and documentation as required by the FCC and other entities
  • Knowledge of budgets, ability to process invoices and general recordkeeping duties
  • Stay current on technology and seek opportunities to learn new skills
  • Provide secondary support to the in-station broadcast production system
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

 

 

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of two years at a broadcasting/studio production facility or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of RF transmission systems
  • IP Network technology skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proven resourcefulness and mental alertness in determining solutions to cope with frequent or unusual operational problems
  • Initiative and ability to work independently
  • Proven mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to bend, crouch, stoop, climb, and lift to 30 lbs. frequently and up to 60 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to work in various weather environments including heat and cold
  • A valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record history
  • Passion for Public Television

Education and Other Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in electronics or equivalent
  • Broadcast/studio engineering experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of broadcast studio systems
  • Basic video production knowledge
  • SBE certification preferred
  • Network+ certification preferred
  • Knowledge of microwave equipment to include adjustment and corrective maintenance procedures with emphasis on digital techniques and encoding methods
  • Experience with digital STL Microwave systems

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required (up to 75 lbs.), filing documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. For the most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical office environment. In addition and more position specific, must be able to travel and work in extreme weather conditions; hike (and/or ski) to remote sites; reach, climb, crouch, balance, twist, crawl, and kneel; ability to operate snowmobiles, 4WD trucks and tow a trailer safely; ability to travel to and from remote sites safely under all weather conditions at all times of day; work under stressful circumstances in all weather conditions. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including able to work multiple days, holidays, evenings, weekends, and possible overtime hours as needed. Availability to travel over multiple days is possible. Must be able to work in changing weather conditions. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.

Compensation:

Salary Range $45,000 to $55,000 and commensurate with experience, including a comprehensive benefits package.
