Ranidae - true frogs

Northern Leopard Frog
The are about 600 species in this family. They are found in all parts of the world, except for Antarctica. There is only one species, the Australian wood frog, found in Australia. Rana is the only genus of this family found in the United States. True frogs have a bony breast bone, long legs, and webbed toes. They lay their eggs in the water. Most species eat insects.
