Derichthyidae - Longneck Eels

There are three species in this family of eels. They are found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Longneck eels are pelagic fish. That means they are found in the pelagic zone of the ocean. The pelagic zone is the part of the ocean not near the shore or near the bottom of the ocean floor. Sometimes it is called the open ocean. Adult longneck eels are 1-2 feet in length and have stripes on their heads that are part of their sensory system.
