Pteropodidae - Old World fruit bats

There are around 166 species in this family of large bats. They are found in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Australia. They have a long, clawed index finger; small ears; large eyes; and short or no tails. The bats in this family use eyesight and not echolocation to find food! They roost in colonies in trees and eat fruit and nectar and play an important role in pollinating flowers! .
