spottedquailthrushThere are five species of birds in this family. The are not thrushes or quails, although they have some of the behaviors and characteristics of both.

Four species are found in Australia and one species is found in New Guinea.

Quail-thrushes are small, ground-dwelling birds. They live in scrub areas and nest on the ground. They travel in pairs or in small groups. They forage on the ground and probe into crevices for insects. They may also eat some seeds. When they are threatened, they will usually run for cover instead of flying away.
