Cercopithecidae - Old World monkeys

Vervet MonkeyThere are about 122 species of medium to large monkeys in this family including rhesus monkeys, proboscis monkeys, colubus monkeys, mandrills, macaques, and baboons. The monkeys in this family are found in Africa and Asia. In most species, their arms are shorter than their legs. Most species have non-prehensile tails. In some species, the tail is very short. Some species, like baboons, have brightly colored rumps, and some species, like mandrills, have brightly colored faces. Most species have well developed facial muscles and use their expressions for visual communication. Some species live in trees and other species live on the ground. Most species live in family groups.
