Northern MockingbirdThere are 35 bird species in this family. They are all found in North and South America. The birds in this family are known for their vocalizations. Some, like the northern mockingbird, have the ability to mimic the calls of other birds and even the sounds of cats, cars, and other sounds!

The birds in this family are medium-sized, usually between 8-12 inches in length. They are usually gray to brown in color and have small to medium bills; long legs; short, rounded wings; and a long tail. Males and females look alike. Most species in this family forage on the ground for seeds, insects, nuts, and berries.
