Mercier is in trouble. Betrayals and double-crossings on all sides have left him alone and in the hands of the Germans. Still, armed with the codename of the unhappy Nazi intelligence officer, as well as a way to get to him, he just might have one last card to play. If he can get to this man perhaps he can prove once and for all that the Nazis are preparing for all-out war. If Mercier's dark suspicions are correct, all of France's boarder defences may count for nothing when the full extent of the enemy's plans are revealed.

David Tennant and Janet Montgomery star in this adaptation of Alan Furst's celebrated spy novel set in Poland, Paris and Berlin in the years leading up to the Second World War.
At the french embassy in Warsaw, the new military attache, Colonel Jean-Francois Mercier, is drawn into a world of abduction, betrayal and intrigue in the diplomatic salons and back alleys of the city.
At the same time, the handsome aristocrat is involved in a passionate love affair with a Parisian woman of polish heritage, a lawyer for the league of nations.
Risking his life, Mercier works in the shadows amid a remarkable cast of characters, some known to him as spies, some never to be revealed.
It is a city where people drink and fight and spy and love, because no one knows what tomorrow will bring.
