Andris Nelsons talks about the passions that led him to become an internationally renowned conductor. In this candid conversation, viewers learn how Nelsons' earliest years in Latvia led to the world stage as he conducts the symphony and reveals his approach to music and musicians. The Secret Life of Musicians: Violinist Elita Kang escapes her day job by climbing mountains in Peru and snorkeling off the coast of Iceland. The Symphony travels to Franklin Park in Boston for a free neighborhood concert. Thousands gather on the lawn to watch conductors Thomas Wilkins, Keith Lockhart and Andris Nelsons lead the BSO through a program of popular and classical music. Conductors and audience members alike explain why they value bringing the Symphony to a community so diverse in age and ethnicity. The Secret Life of Musicians. Violinist Bonnie Bewick spends her off hours in a trio of Irish fiddlers, and she explains the difference between a violin and a fiddle. The 2017-2018 Season is seen through the eyes of newcomer Danny Kim, in his second year as a violist, and Larry Wolfe in his 47th year playing the bass with the BSO. Through these artists at opposite ends of their careers we understand the Symphony as an evolving, vital organization.
