NHPTV AND SEACOAST SCIENCE CENTER CO-SPONSOR 2nd ANNUAL MARINE READ-A-THON

(DURHAM, February 24, 2004) – A feast of fish tales will be heard during the 2nd Annual Marine Read-A-Thon Saturday, March 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seacoast Science Center at Odiorne Point. Children ages 3 - 8 and their families are invited to the event, which is co-sponsored by New Hampshire Public Television’s Knowledge Network Ready To Learn service and the Seacoast Science Center. The Marine Read-A-Thon promotes literacy, environmental awareness and fun. The program will include a reading aloud story time, hands-on activities, handouts with information and activities for children and parents, and refreshments. The first 150 children to attend will receive a free copy of either A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle; Ibis a True Whale Story by John Himmelman; or The Earth Is Mostly Ocean by Allan Fowler, courtesy of NHPTV. "This collaboration with the Seacoast Science Center is wonderful," said Pat VanWagoner, NHPTV's Ready To Learn Coordinator. "This is the second year we’re offering a fun marine-related reading and learning experience for children and their families." “The Seacoast Science Center is excited to be involved in encouraging reading, along with stimulating interest in the sciences and the ocean,” noted Perrin Cothran, director of interpretation at the Center.
