NHPTV's Knowledge Network Presents Family Literacy Nights in Manchester

(DURHAM-October 17, 2002) New Hampshire Public Television is sponsoring two Family Literacy Nights in Manchester this month. The events feature a variety of activities including a parenting workshop, storytelling for children, and appearances by Leona from the popular PBS Kids series Between the Lions.NHPTV's Knowledge Network offers Family Literacy Nights as part of its Ready To Learn (RTL) service. RTL helps parents and caregivers encourage learning skills in young children. Families will meet the costumed character Leona, the little sister from the lion clan that runs the library in Between the Lions. Children can participate in readings from storytellers and other activities. Each child will receive a new book from NHPTV's First Book program. The Knowledge Network is teaming with education partner Manchester School District Title One to bring a Family Literacy Night to Gossler Park School on Monday, October 21 at 6 p.m. Parents and caregivers are invited to take part in the child development workshop, "Lions and Literacy." The Manchester Developmental Preschool will host open house events Tuesday, October 22 that include NHPTV's Between the Lions activities.
