NHPTV WINS ELEVEN NATIONAL "TELLY" AWARDS

(DURHAM, March 3, 2004) – New Hampshire Public Television recently won one silver and 10 bronze Telly Awards for excellence in non-network television programming.NH Outlook, NHPTV’s award-winning nightly magazine airing at 10 p.m., won three bronze Tellys. NH Outlook is dedicated to timely, in-depth discussion and analysis of local issues and current events. It received awards for the following segments: “Internet Privacy,” which focused on how to keep information and people safe while using the Internet (Telly information caregory); “Veteran’s Day Program,” which highlighted disabled vets, a book about a WWII nurse, and the Veteran’s History Project (culture); and “Blueberry Picking,” which explored commercial blueberry harvesting (news feature). UNH Hockey, “The Foley’s: All-American Family,” a portrait of three-time UNH hockey captain Patrick Foley’s family (bronze Telly for sports feature);Wild New Hampshire, a feature program based on NHPTV’s popular Wildlife Journal series won a silver Telly for entertainment; Wildlife Journal was a finalist for six bronze Telly awards. Wildlife Journal is a co-production of NHPTV and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. The award-winning series explores New Hampshire’s outdoor recreation opportunities, its wildlife resources and the people who manage and conserve them.“Kayaking on Great Bay,” an episode featuring segments on artist Koji Yaoita; co-host Lisa Densmore exploring Great Bay via kayak; the rare Blanding's turtle; and Franklin Falls (bronze Telly for information); Two segments: “Return of the Sea Birds” (about terns being lured back to their historic home) (bronze Telly for information); and “Reaching the Summits” (a hike organized by Northeast Passage, an organization which helps people enjoy sports thorough adaptive equipment and helping hands) (bronze Telly for documentary) A “Wild Places” segment on Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge (a National Natural Landmark that is often called a "crown jewel" of New Hampshire's landscape)(bronze Telly for entertainment); and Two “Wild Ways” segments: “Diggin’ Clamming” (co-host Lisa Densmore digs for clams on tidal flats) (bronze Telly for information); and “White Water Canoeing” Lisa learns the finer points of preparing herself and her canoe for white-water) (bronze Telly for information). Each episode of Wildlife Journal, co-hosted by Willem Lange and Lisa Densmore, has four segments:two feature stories and a “Wild Ways” (how-to skills) and “Wild Places” (areas of scenic or recreational interest) segment. Wildlife Journal airs on NHPTV Thursday nights at 9 p.m., and is repeated Fridays at noon, Saturdays @ 3:30 p.m., and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Information is available at www.wildlifejournal.tv.
