- 1863 - Battle of Gettysburg begins.
- 1867 - The Province of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia join into together to form the country Canada under the British North America Act.
- 1867 - Sir John A. Macdonald becomes the first Prime Minister of Canada.
- 1873 - Prince Edward Island becomes part of Canada.
- 1881 - The first international phone call occurs between The world's first international telephone call is made between St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, and Calais, Maine.
- 1963 - ZIP codes are introduced for U.S. mail.
- 1980 - "O Canada" becomes Canada's official national anthem
- 1997 - Hong Kong reverts to Chinese rule.
