  • 1867 - Sir John A. Macdonald becomes the first Prime Minister of Canada.
  • 1873 - Prince Edward Island becomes part of Canada.
  • 1881 - The first international phone call occurs between The world's first international telephone call is made between St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, and Calais, Maine.
  • 1963 - ZIP codes are introduced for U.S. mail.
  • 1980 - "O Canada" becomes  Canada's official national anthem
  • 1997 - Hong Kong reverts to Chinese rule.
